Clear the Cache row inside TikTok

To clear TikTok cache, open Profile, tap the menu, and choose Settings and privacy. Open Free up space, then tap Clear beside Cache and confirm. Read the row label before tapping: Downloads and Drafts are separate controls on the same screen.

This is a useful first check when TikTok behaves oddly or takes up more space than expected. It removes temporary files. It does not make a creator's unavailable post downloadable, recover a removed video, or repair every connection problem. Try it for an app problem, then check whether that particular problem has changed.

Follow the same in-app route on iPhone or Android

TikTok's troubleshooting guide describes an in-app route that starts at your profile. You may need to scroll in Settings and privacy to find Free up space. Wording and placement can vary by app version, so look for the Cache label rather than relying on an old screenshot.

Use TikTok's own screen first. Your phone's app-storage settings may offer actions with different effects, such as clearing app data or removing the app. Those broader actions are unnecessary for this procedure. If the expected menu is missing, check that your app is up to date before trying another route.

  1. Open TikTok and tap Profile.
  2. Open the menu, then Settings and privacy.
  3. Choose Free up space and find the Cache row.
  4. Tap Clear next to Cache, confirm, and reopen the feature that was failing.

Keep cache, downloads, and drafts separate

The Free up space screen brings several storage actions together. TikTok lists clearing Cache, clearing Downloads, and managing Drafts as separate options. Selecting the cache control is different from selecting drafts and deleting them. Do not tap every Clear button just because you want the app to feel faster.

If you are working on a valuable draft, keep the original footage and editing files somewhere you can access independently. A draft inside an app should not be your only copy of a project. Avoid uninstalling TikTok or clearing all app data as a routine cleanup shortcut.

Check the result without expecting a fixed space saving

After clearing, try the action that was failing: opening a post, loading your profile, or starting playback. If it now works, you have a useful result. If it does not, repeating the same cleanup several times is unlikely to explain the cause. Move on to a different check.

How much storage you reclaim depends on what was cached. There is no fixed number of megabytes to expect. Temporary files can build up again as you use the app. A growing cache alone does not mean something is wrong with your account or phone.

If TikTok still will not load or save

TikTok recommends restarting the app and device, checking for updates, and testing the connection. Switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data can help identify a network problem, though your mobile plan may charge for data. Check whether the failure affects every post or only one before changing more settings.

A missing Save option needs a different explanation from an app that freezes. The creator's download settings can remove the native saving option. Clearing your cache does not change that permission. If the browser has already started downloading a file, inspect its download list and available storage instead.

Cache clearing is not an account reset

Treat this as a narrow troubleshooting action. It is not a way to erase your account, remove everything you have posted, or guarantee a different recommendation feed. If you want to change a privacy or recommendation setting, use the control designed for that task and read its explanation.

When reporting an unresolved problem, note the app version, device, and the exact action that fails. Describe what you already tried. That is more useful than saying you have cleared everything, and it reduces the chance of repeating a step that did not help.
